Laurelhurst
Neighborhood
The Laurelhurst Deed Restriction (1909 - 1934) prohibited Black, Japanese, Chinese, and minorities from owning or using any land in the Laurelhurst neighborhood. BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) were only allowed into the neighborhood if they were hired as servants. Today, The Laurelhurst Neighborhood Association Board of Directors has disavowed that deed.
It is the character of God to bring hope, healing, and vision in the very place the enemy sought to bring division. Apostle John painted a picture of heaven that reflects God's heart for diversity, “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands.” Prayer is a part of God’s redemptive work to bring solace and healing to those who are hurting in our community.
