Communion
In Portland As It Is In Heaven
As we focus in this series on Jesus’ call to discipleship and life together, our communion liturgy reminds us of Jesus’ teaching to his apprentices about what it means
Read: Hear the words of our Master, Jesus, to his followers in Matthew 16v24–26: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”
Pray: Jesus, as we observe communion now, we do so remembering what it means to follow you by living a life of self-sacrifice and love. Thank you for modeling this way of life, for showing us how to live in your upside down Kingdom. Teach us how to lose our lives in a way that we might find them in you. Amen.
Take the elements: Take and eat the body of Christ, broken for you. Take and drink the blood of Christ, shed for you. The gift of God for the people of God.
