Bridgetown Church Announcement
We are excited to announce an important change to the identity of Bridgetown Church. It has been six years since Bridgetown first gathered, but our story began in 2004 when Solid Rock Church planted in Beaverton, Oregon. As Solid Rock began to grow, the vision became to plant churches all over the city, beginning with Bridgetown in early 2010.
As churches began to plant, the church model of “one church in multiple locations” evolved into a “family of churches,” allowing each church to express their own identity in their area of the city. Over the years, Bridgetown has established itself as unique to its location and cultural context. We have been operating independently with our own pastors, elders, and deacons.
We have grown up as a family of churches, but the time has come for the children to move out of the house and get their own bank account. So effective Oct 1, 2016, Bridgetown Church will become its own 501(c)(3). This means that we will now have our own legal status as a non-profit organization. Our family of churches is officially disbanding, but we will remain in healthy relationship.
This is another coming-of-age moment for Bridgetown Church.
Bridgetown has become even more financially independent. We no longer belong to A Jesus Church Family Inc. and the 501(c)(3) non-profit status we once shared. Our financial stability rests solely upon ourselves, but our goals remain the same—to partner with Jesus to serve our city, become a church marked by radical generosity, and give 10% of every dollar directly to supporting justice work both globally and locally.
We will no longer be known as “Bridgetown: A Jesus Church.” We will now be known as simply “Bridgetown Church.”
We are a completely independent church. This means we are not a campus, we are not part of a multi-site church, we are not a “downtown location.”
Though our name no longer includes “A Jesus Church” we are still, more than ever, a church built around Jesus. We are committed to practicing the way of Jesus together, creating space to hear from the Spirit, and praying that God’s will would be done in Portland as it is in Heaven.
