A Prayer for Southeast Portland

Jesus, we are so fortunate to live in such an amazing city. Each district has its own unique charm and culture.

We pray for Southeast Portland.

It is exciting to see this corner of the city continue to develop and prosper. Thank you for our very own Salt & Straw that always has a shorter line than the one in Northwest.

There is a huge diversity of people. From the hipsters at Broder Cafe, to the hippies fire dancing at Colonel Summers Park, to the young families raising children, and the older generation living in Ladd’s Addition,

we ask that they would discover the Kingdom of God.

On the streets of Southeast there are amazing restaurants but there is also a darkness. People are suffering. They are searching for truth. They are searching for enlightenment from alternative spirituality. Or escape through substance abuse. Others maintain an attitude of apathy and indifference to avoid the harsh realities of life.

We ask that through the many different Missional Communities, the people of Southeast Portland would be introduced to a new hope.

That the people who are broken would be made whole.

Thank you that we get to be a part of a neighborhood that raises chickens and grows gardens out of every crack in the sidewalk.

The people in this city value sustainability and cultivation of your creation. We pray that you would be ultimately recognized as The Creator of all things and that you would use us to our fullest potentials to point people to you.

Thank you that this corner of Portland so values uniqueness and creativity. However, we know that with this can come unique versions of pain, self-medication, and apathy. We ask that you would show us how to love those around us the way you do.

Holy Spirit, break into the darkest, farthest reaches of Southeast Portland and set people free.

We ask that God’s will be done in Southeast Portland as it is in Heaven.

Amen.
